첫 소절에 보면 "... you can count me out *[in]" 이라고 돼있고 해석도 그렇게 해 놓았다. 그런데 실제 노래에선 [in] 이 빠져있다. 어떻게 된 걸까.

사실 John Lennon이 이 곡을 처음 녹음한 건 "The Beatles" 앨범의

"Revolution 1" 이었고, 이 곡에는 [in]이 들어가 있다. 

그런데 싱글 version "Revolution"을 녹음하면서 굳이 [in]을 안 넣어도 되겠다고 생각한 것이다.

허나 발매는 싱글이 먼저 되었고, 

이 노래를 들은 당시 미국와 유럽의 좌파들은 "... count me out ..." 부분에 대해 

많은 불만을 표시하였다.

이에 대해 John Lennon은 나중에 Playboy誌와의 인터뷰에서 이렇게 밝히고 있다.

"... I want to see the plan. ... Count em out if it's for violence. Don't expect me on the barricades unless it's with flowers. As far as overthrowing something in the name of Marxism or Christianity, I want to know what you're going to do after you've knocked it all down. ... If you want to change the system, change the system. It's no good shooting people."

"... 난 대안을 보기 원해요. ... 그저 폭력만 사용할 거라면 날 빼달란 거죠. 

꽃을 들고 나서는 게 아니라면 내가 바리케이트 앞에 설 거라고

기대하지 마세요. 마르크스의 이름과 기독교 정신의 이름으로 돌멩이만 집어 던진다면, 

이후 모든 게 파괴 되고 난 다음에는 뭘 할 거냔 말이죠. ... 시스템을

바꾸고 싶다면 시스템을 바꾸세요. 사람들에게 총질을 해서 뭘 얻겠냐구요."

그래서 위의 가사에 * 표시와 함께 [in] 이라고 써 놓았고, 그렇게 해석을 해 놓은 것이다.

자, 건물의 최상층부에 들어앉아 그들은 계속 네게 지시하고 있어.

니가 배워야 하는 것이란 니가 살인을 하는 순간에도 웃어야 한다는 것이다.
